An expansion catheter capable of freely controlling the expansion characteristics (compliance) of an expansion body (1), comprising a protective member (108) for protecting the blade portion of a cutter (104), wherein a cutter structural body (4) is fitted to tubular members (2, 3) near the expansion body (1), whereby excellent operability, particularly, excellent admission capability into a constrictive lesion and a bent lesion can be provided, protectiveness of the cutter (104) can be increased, safety can be increased, and the expansion body (101) can be thinned and made flexible.
