14 Abstract of the Invention There is disclosed a cervical canal swelling device having an essentially cylindrically shaped stem formed in major portion thereof of a dehydrated hydrogel having a swelling capacity of 0.01 to 0.25 and an enforced unimaxial deformation of at least 1.1 and sized to a diameter of from 2 to 10 mm. and to a length of from 35 to 150 mm.
