Abstract: Sodium 6-[D(-)-.alpha.-(4-hydroxy-1,5-naphthyridine-3- carboxamido)phenylacetamidolpenicillanate or its hydroxylated derivative at the p-position of the phenyl group can be purified efficiently from the crude state through its dimethyl sulfoxide adduct. This avoids the disadvantageous decomposition products and the isomer formation of conventional purification methods. The dimethylsulfoxide adduct can be formed and subsequently decomposed by means of simple reactions, so that the purification process is inexpensive and easy to carry out.
