Diode lasers type of devices with good coupling between field distribution and gain are disclosed. A single element has a flat field distribution that couples with the uniform current injection in a contact region. A multi element array having almost flat field distribution in each element and almost equal amplitude for the field intensity in all elements is provided. Injection by multiple contacts couples well with the overall field distribution. Also, the lasers are stable against filament formation and mode switching.

La présente invention se rapporte à des dispositifs de type lasers à diode présentant un couplage satisfaisant entre la distribution de champ et le gain. Un élément unique possède une distribution de champ plate, qui se couple à l'injection de courant uniforme dans une zone de contact. L'invention a également trait à un réseau à éléments multiples présentant une distribution de champ quasiment plate dans chaque élément et une amplitude quasiment égale pour l'intensité de champ dans tous les éléments. L'injection par des contacts multiples se couple bien avec la distribution de champ globale. En outre, les lasers selon l'invention présentent une grande stabilité contre la formation de filaments et la commutation de mode.
