A direct converter (1) comprising n input phase connections (U1, V1, W1) and p output phase connections (U2, V2, W2) is specified, where n >= 2 and p >= 2. Furthermore, the direct converter comprises (n.p) two-pole switching cells (2) for switching at least one positive and at least one negative voltage between the poles, each output phase connection (U2, V2, W2) being connected in series with each input phase connection (U1, V1, W1) respectively via a switching cell (2). In order to enable any desired and continuous current flow setting from an input phase connection to an output phase connection of the direct converter and, moreover, in order to exchange electrical energy between the two-pole switching cells of the direct converter, at least one inductance (3) is connected into each series connection. A system comprising a direct converter is furthermore specified.
