The aim of the invention is to increase the productivity of a direct-current arc furnace for producing steel while decreasing the stresses incurred by the furnace. To this end, at least two electrodes (7a, b) which are inserted from above into the smelting vessel (2) and at least one bottom electrode (8) are arranged in such a way that two slanting arcs (9a, b) are produced which extend to the middle of the bottom of the smelting furnace. In addition, the smelting vessel (2) is upwardly lengthened by a centric shaft (10) which is provided for introducing melt-down material (11) in the vessel and for forming a melt-down material column.
L'invention vise à augmenter la productivité d'un four à arc de courant continu pou produire de l'acier, tout en réduisant les sollicitations auxquelles le four est soumis. A cet effet, il est prévu au moins deux électrodes (7a, b) introduites par en haut dans la cuve de fusion (2) et au moins une électrode de fond (8), disposées de manière à produire deux arcs électriques (9a, b) obliques par rapport au centre du fond du four de fusion. La cuve de fusion (2) est prolongée vers le haut par un puits central (10) pour introduire les matières à fondre (11) dans la cuve, ainsi que pour former une colonne de matière de fusion.
