A device for rapidly assaying and characterising the presence of a molecule with a molecular weight of less than 10,000 daltons, i.e. a haptene, in a liquid sample, said device consisting of a hydrophilic support enabling capillary migration of a liquid therein, and having a plurality of separate regions in which the reagents are deposited and/or dried. The device consists of at least the following portions: (a) a receiving portion for the sample to be tested; (b) a reservoir portion containing a conjugate which is both marked with a marker enabling direct detection thereof, and also is a ligand for the molecule to be assayed, portions (a) and (b) being superimposed or sequential; (c) two successive barriers consisting of affinity pair moieties of which one, known as a negative reading barrier, retains said conjugate during migration thereof over the support when the desired molecule is not present in the sample, while the other retains said conjugate when the desired molecule is present, in which case said molecule is directly or indirectly bound to said conjugate, and said second barrier is known as a positive reaction reading zone; and (d) an absorptive portion arranged adjacent to the hydrophilic support for promoting liquid flow from the sample receiving portion (a) through the other portions that make up the device.

Dispositif d'analyse rapide et de caractérisation de la présence d'une molécule de poids moléculaire inférieur à 10 000 daltons, ou haptène, dans un échantillon liquide, ledit dispositif étant constitué d'un support hydrophile dans lequel un liquide est susceptible de migrer par capillarité, ayant une pluralité de régions distinctes dans lesquelles les réactifs sont déposés et/ou séchés, ce dispositif étant caractérisé par le fait qu'il est constitué au moins des zones suivantes: (a) une zone de réception de l'échantillon à tester; (b) une zone réservoir contenant un conjugué possédant la double caractéristique d'être marqué par un marqueur permettant sa détection directe et d'être un ligand pour la molécule à analyser, les zones en (a) et (b) pouvant être superposées ou séquentielles; (c) de deux barrières successives constituées de moitiés de paires d'affinité dont l'une retient ledit conjugué lors de sa migration sur le support en l'absence de la molécule recherchée dans l'échantillon, appelée barrière de lecture négative et l'autre retient ledit conjugué en présence de la molécule recherchée, cette dernière étant alors liée directement ou indirectement audit conjugué, cette deuxième barrière étant alors une zone de lecture positive de la réaction; (d) un moyen absorbant et contigu au support hydrophile permettant de favoriser le flux de liquide depuis la zone (a) de réception de l'échantillon à travers les autres zones constitutives dudit dispositif.
