ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A direct interface circuit between a personal computer and a plurality of fuel pumps includes an on-board controller for communicating with the fuel pumps and a memory device. Either the controller or the personal computer can access the memory device in order to write data to, and retrieve data from, the memory device. Access to the memory device is controlled by the controller. The memory device is a window memory having an access port that can interface with either the controller or the peripheral bus of the personal computer. The interface circuit includes a data base memory that is repetitively updated by data received from the fuel pumps. Most messages received from the personal computer are applied to the data base rather than being communicated to the fuel pumps. Communication between the controller and the fuel pumps is on-going and not initiated upon request from the computer. A mirror image of the data in the data base is provided in the window memory shared between the personal computer and the interface unit for ease of access by the personal computer. The interface circuit may be conveniently positioned in an expansion slot of a personal computer and thereby operate off the power supply of the personal computer and interface directly with the peripheral bus of the personal computer. -39-
