A direct liquid fuel cell (1) includes a cathode (4), an anode (3), a fuel chamber (2), and at least one membrane (8) arranged between the anode (3) and the fuel chamber (2). The membrane (8) is structured and arranged to allow gas which is formed on or in the vicinity of the surface of the anode (3) which faces the fuel chamber (2) to accumulate adjacent to the anode (3) at least to a point where the accumulated gas substantially prevents a direct contact between the anode (3) and the liquid fuel. A method of preventing or reducing fuel decomposition in the fuel cell is also disclosed.
L'invention concerne une pile à combustible liquide directe (1) comprenant une cathode (4), une anode (3), une chambre de combustible (2), et au moins une membrane (8) placée entre l'anode (3) et la chambre de combustible (2). La membrane (8) est structurée et disposée de manière à permettre au gaz qui est formé sur ou à proximité de la surface de l'anode (3) faisant face à la chambre de combustible (2) d'accumuler à proximité de l'anode (3) au moins un point au niveau duquel le gaz accumulé empêche sensiblement un contact direct entre l'anode (3) et le combustible liquide. L'invention concerne également un procédé destiné à empêcher ou à réduire la décomposition de combustible dans la pile à combustible.
