A catalytic process is disclosed for oxidizing cycloalkanes directly to form, in a single step, a mixture containing the corresponding alcohol and ketone. In particular, the invention relates to oxidizing a cycloalkane by contacting it with a source of oxygen and a catalytic amount of a heterogeneous catalyst. The catalysts of the invention include gold (including gold sol-gel compounds) and sol-gel compounds containing particular combinations of Cr, Co, Zr, Ta, Si, Mg, Nb, Al and Ti, wherein certain of those metals have been combined with an oxide, such as an inorganic matrix of hydroxides or oxides, or combinations thereof. The catalysts may also optionally be supported on a suitable support member.

L'invention concerne un processus catalytique relatif à l'oxydation directe des cycloalcanes, de manière à former, en une seule étape, un mélange renfermant les alcool et cétone correspondants. En particulier, l'invention concerne l'oxydation d'un cycloalcane par mise en contact de ce produit avec une source d'oxygène et une quantité catalytique de catalyseur hétérogène. Les catalyseurs considérés aux fins de l'invention sort l'or (y compris les composés d'or sol-gel) et les composés sol-gel comportant des combinaisons particulières de Cr, Co, Zr, Ta, Si, Mg, Nb, Al et Ti, sachant que certains de ces métaux ont été combinés avec un oxyde (par exemple, matrice inorganique d'hydroxydes ou d'oxydes ou de combinaisons des deux). Eventuellement, les catalyseurs peuvent aussi être présentés sur un support approprié.
