A method for producing pig iron by direct processing of ferrotitania sands, by the steps of: (a) mixing carbonaceous reductant, a fluxing agent, and a binder with titanium- containing materials selected from iron sands, metallic oxides, and/or iron ore concentrates, to form a mixture; (b) forming agglomerates from the mixture (c) introducing the agglomerates to a melting furnace; (d) melting the agglomerates at a temperature of from 1500 to 1760C and forming hot metal with a slag thereon; (e) removing the slag; (f) tapping the hot metal; and (g) recovering the titanium and vanadium values.
L'invention concerne un procédé de production de fonte brute par le traitement direct des sables de ferrotitane comprenant les étapes consistant à : (a) mélanger un agent de réduction carboné, un fondant et un liant avec des matériaux contenant du titane sélectionnés parmi des sables ferreux, des oxydes métalliques et/ou des concentrés de minerai de fer, pour former un mélange ; (b) former des agglomérats à partir de ce mélange ; (c) introduire les agglomérats dans un four de fusion ; (d) faire fondre les agglomérats à une température allant de 1500 à 1760 °C et à former du métal chaud avec une scorie dessus ; (e) retirer la scorie ; (f) couler le métal chaud ; et (g) récupérer les valeurs de titane et de vanadium.
