ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A directionally solidified casting comprising improved high temperature properties is provided having a cobalt-base matrix and consisting essentially of, on a weight basis, 10-20% nickel, 8.1-25% tungsten, Q-10% chromium, 10-23% tantalum, 0.1-1.5% carbon, the balance being cobalt. Embedded in the matrix is an aligned tantalum carbide reinforcing fibrous phase. The casting may be utilized in gas turbine components which operate in high temperature environments.
