ABSTRACT A brake system for wheeled vehicles, especially lift trucks having one motorized drive wheel driven by a vertically mounted electric motor through a gear train. The axis of the motor is offset from the steering axis of the wheel and a disc brake is mounted at the end of the motor shaft remote from the gear train. The reaction of the disc brake is grounded to the truck frame.
