There is disclosed a disc brake system incorporating a split calliper having a first calliper half integrally formed with a mounting plate for mounting the calliper on a vehicle. A second calliper half is fixedly and removably attached to the first calliper half in spaced apart relation to provide room for a rotor to be disposed between the calliper halves. The joiner plates permit adjustment of the distance between the calliper halves to accommodate rotors of different thickness. The split design provides a slimmer calliper profile permitting the use of larger diameter rotors in the same space. A splined rotor carrier permits mounting of the rotor on to a wheel hub housing having a corresponding spline. The disc brake system of the present invention is particularly useful in retrofitting existing vehicles, especially light armored vehicles (LAV's).

La présente concerne un système de freins à disque comprenant un étrier fendu ayant un premier demi-étrier intégralement formé avec une plaque de montage pour la fixation de l'étrier sur un véhicule. Un deuxième demi-étrier est attaché de manière solidaire et amovible au premier demi- étrier avec un espacement pour permettre l'insertion d'un disque entre les deux demi-étriers. Les plaques de joint permettent l'ajustement de la distance entre les deux demi-étriers pour recevoir des disques de différentes épaisseurs. La conception fendue offre un profil d'étrier plus mince permettant l'utilisation de disques de plus grand diamètre dans le même espace. Un porte-disque cannelé permet le montage du disque sur un logement de moyeu de roue ayant une cannelure correspondante. Le système de frein à disque dans la présente invention est particulièrement utile pour la remise en état des véhicules existants, en particulier les véhicules blindés légers (VBL).
