ABSTRACT: A disc playback apparatus which is capable of reproducing digital data in contrast to for example audio information such as music. In order to access the disc on a shorter unit basis than for say audio information a time indication code, termed sub-coding is used. The disc is recorded with main digital data and subdigital data (which corresponds to the sub-coding) which is used to reproduce selectively the main digital data. In the playback appar- atus the subcoding is separated from the main digital data and is supplied to a system controller which controls the reading operation of a desired digital signal from the disc.
