An electrode assembly for a discharge lamp in which the upholding part of the electrode can be fitted into the electrode with extremely high accuracy is obtained by the electrode having a first concave portion and a second concave portion, a buffer component being located in the second concave portion. The upholding part of the electrode has a cylindrical end part which adjoins a tapering part. The cylindrical part of the electrode upholding part is positioned in the first concave part, and the upholding part of the electrode is fitted into the electrode such that the tapering part presses the buffer component flat.
