A level shift IC (3b) of a power supply interrupting part (3) interrupts power supply to a smoothing capacitor (4) when an interruption signal (Sa) is inputted for a time (T) from a timer circuit (8) while a discharge lamp (7) is lighted. While the interruption signal (Sa) is being inputted, a comparator (10) detects that a detection signal (Sb) of a capacitor voltage is reduced to be lower than a reference voltage (Vr1). Then, the end of a lifetime of the smoothing capacitor (4) is notified and a main control circuit (6) suppresses output of an inverter main circuit (5).
Selon l~invention, un circuit intégré à décalage de niveau (3b) d~une partie d~interruption de l~alimentation (3) interrompt l~alimentation d~un condensateur de lissage (4) lors de l~application d~un signal d~interruption (Sa) issu d~un circuit de minuterie (8) pendant une durée (T) alors qu~une lampe à décharge (7) est éclairée. Simultanément à l~application du signal d~interruption (Sa), un comparateur (10) détecte la réduction d~un signal de détection (Sb) d~une tension de condensateur jusqu~à un niveau inférieur à une tension de référence (Vr1). La fin de la durée de vie du condensateur de lissage (4) est alors notifiée et un circuit de commande principal (6) supprime la sortie d~un circuit onduleur principal (5).
