A discrete pod gas scrubber system for removing contaminants from the air of a work area, such as a paint spray booth (22). Each scrubber pod (26) includes an inlet section (42) having opposed diverging walls (48, 52) and side walls communicating with the inlet section through a reduced diameter venturi (50), and an outlet section (46) having a bottom wall (60) perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the scrubber pod, a diverging top wall (62) and an end wall. The end wall includes an orifice opening (80) and orifice plates (70, 72) for adjusting the orifice opening and the combined lengths of the aligned scrubber pods are between fifty and ninety percent of the total length of the scrubber system, more preferably between sixty percent and eighty five percent of the total length. The scrubber system of this invention significantly reduces the noise generated in the work area normally located above the gas scrubber system.

L'invention concerne un système de lavage des gaz à caissons indépendants destiné à éliminer les contaminants présents dan l'air d'une zone de travail, telle qu'une cabine de peinture au pistolet (22). Chaque caisson de lavage (26) comporte un partie d'admission (42) pourvue de parois planes convergentes opposées (48, 52) et de parois latérales communiquant avec la partie d'admission par un venturi (50) de diamètre réduit et une partie d'évacuation (46) pourvue d'une paroi de fond (60) perpendiculaire à l'axe longitudinal du caisson de lavage, d'une paroi supérieure divergente (62) et d'une paroi d'extrémité. Cette dernière est pourvue d'une ouverture (80) et de plaques (70, 72) destinées à régler le degré d'ouverture et les longueurs combinées des caissons de lavage alignés sont égales à entre 50 et 90 % de la longueur totale du système de lavage, de préférence entre 60 et 85 % de la longueur totale. Ce système de lavage permet de réduire de façon significative le bruit généré dans la zone de travail normalement située au-dessus du système de lavage des gaz.
