TITLE DISH STRUCTURE FOR SATELLITE RECEIVING ANTENNA INVENTOR Samuel John SHIRLEY ABSTRACT A paraboloid reflector, suitable as the passive reflec- tive surface, in an earth bound satellite receiving antenna is disclosed composed of a plurality of identical petals, odd in number, the surface of each petal tracing out loci coincident with the paraboloid of revolution of the reflector. The ad- vantage of an odd number of petals is that the interjoining seams, petal to petal, trace out one arm of a single parabola, are non-symmetrical with any other arm of a parabola and hence establish an interference pattern seam from seam, when 17 such seams exist tending to enhance the amount of electro-magnetic energy reflected onto the focus of the paraboloid of revolu- tion. Higher gain and a better front to back ratio is achie- ved while also allowing simplicity of delivery from manufac- turer to user of a broken down paraboloid which can be assem- bled at site.
