An automatic dishwasher (10) comprises a tub (12) comprising a peripheral wall defining a wash chamber (26), a rotating water spray assembly (34) in the wash chamber (26) for spraying liquid into the wash chamber (26), at least one side sprayer (28) in the wash chamber (26) for spraying liquid (106) into the wash chamber (26), a utensil basket (62) within the wash chamber (26) for holding utensils for washing by the liquid sprayed (104, 106) by the rotating water spray assembly (34) and the at least one side sprayer (28), and an adjustable utensil carrier (110, 120, 180, 220) attached to the utensil basket (62) and adjustable between a first position wherein a utensil placed therein is predominately exposed to direct spray (106) from the at least one side sprayer (28), and a second position wherein a utensil supported thereby is exposed to direct spray (104) from both the rotating water spray assembly (34) and the at least one side sprayer (28).
