Abstract A dishwasher (50) has a primary spray system defining a recirculating path for filtering wash and rinse fluids from a sump through a main screen (74) and pumping the filtered fluids through spray arms (57) which spray the fluid onto food ware in the wash chamber (55) of the dishwasher. Fluid is also circu- lated from the wash chamber through a soil collecting circuit (78) which conducts fluid to a soil collector (88) which is separate from the wash chamber and recirculating path. The soil collector includes a fine filter screen (88) which filters food soil from fluid passing therethrough and holds it within the collector for discharge into the dishwasher drain system (66,68,70,130) when the fluids are drained from the dishwasher.
