A dishwasher is provided, comprising a base portion (140) _ adapted to support a tub portion (120). A control unit (160) is configured to be in communication with at least one dishwasher operational component and with at least one control switch device remotely disposed with respect to the base portion. The control unit is responsive to the at least one control switch device to control the at least one dishwasher operational component. The control unit is disposed about the base portion and is selectively accessible from a forward side thereof. An associated method of forming the dishwasher is also provided.
