DISK BRAKE ACTUATOR ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A brake actuator (30) provides an increased pressure force (32) on a pressure plate (22) to compress a disk brake stack (20) for braking action of a rotating wheel (18). The actuator (30) includes a high torque spring (70, 72, 74) that works in association with either an electric torque motor (40) or a ball-screw mechanism (50) to achieve an increased torque output to a ring gear (46) that drives a ram (56) of the ball-screw mechanism into or out of engagement with the pressure plate (22), the spring being adapted to either brake actuation or de-activation modes of operation.
