The present invention is directed to graft copolymers of nitrogenous monomers on polymeric methacrylate substrates and to their methods of preparation and use. The graft copolymers of the invention are produced by preparing a mixture of constituent vinyl monomers suitable for being polymerized into a polymeric substrate, polymerizing a first portion of the mixture while adding a second portion of the mixture to the first portion to polymerize both the first and second portions to form the polymeric substrate. Thereafter, a nitrogenous monomer is grafted onto the polymeric substrate. Hybrid copolymers of a nitrogenous graft copolymer with nitrogenous random polymers can be prepared by first forming the nitrogenous graft copolymer and then copolymerizing additional constituent vinyl monomers with the residual monomer to form the hybrid copolymer.
