A dispersant of general Formula (1) wherein T is hydrogen or a polymerisation terminating group; Z is an acidic or basic group or a moiety containing either an acidic or basic group; A and B are each, independently, oxyalkylene carbonyl groups derivable from .delta.-valerolactone, ~- caprolactone or alkyl substituted ~-caprolactone provided that both are not ~-caprolactone or .delta.-valerolactone; n and p are integers; and n + p is from 2 to 100; including salts thereof. Specific examples of dispersants are the reaction product of lauric acid, ~-caprolactone, 7-methyl- ~-caprolactone with PEI, the reaction product of lauric acid, ~-caprolactone, .delta.-valerolactone with PEI and the phosphate of the reaction product of dodecanol, ~-caprolactone and .delta.-valerolactone.

L'invention concerne un dispersant de la formule générale (1), ainsi que les sels de ce dispersant. Dans cette formule, T est un hydrogène ou un groupe d'arrêt de polymérisation; Z est un groupe acide ou basique ou une fraction contenant soit un groupe acide, soit un groupe basique; A et B sont chacun, d'une manière indépendante, des groupes oxyalkylène carbonyle pouvant être dérivés de la delta -valérolactone, de la ELEMENT -caprolactone ou d'une ELEMENT -caprolactone à substitution alkyle, à condition que les deux ne soient pas des groupes ELEMENT -caprolactone ou delta -valérolactone; n et p sont des nombres entiers; et n + p va de 2 à 100. Comme exemples spécifiques de ces dispersants, on peut citer le produit de réaction de l'acide laurique, de la ELEMENT -caprolactone, de la 7-méthyl- ELEMENT -caprolactone avec une polyéthylèneimine ramifiée (PEI), le produit de la réaction de l'acide laurique ,de la ELEMENT -caprolactone, de la delta -valérolactone avec la PEI et le phosphate du produit de réaction du dodécanol, de la ELEMENT caprolactone et de la delta -valérolactone.
