ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE According to the present invention, novel oil soluble compositions useful as dispersants are provided by reaction of a mono- or polycarboxylic acid acylating reactant with at least one heterocyclic polyol of the formula: Image wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are the same or different and are selected from the group consisting of H, alkyl and -CH(OH)R5, wherein R5 is hydrogen or C1 to C10 alkyl, and wherein X and Y are the same or different and are H or C1 to C10 alkyl, with the proviso that at least one of R1, R2, R3 and R4 is the -CH(OH)R5 moiety.
