ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A composition of matter, useful as a dispersing agent, and method of making thereof. The composition comprises certain alkali metal salts of a condensation product of naphthalenesulfonic acid and formaldehyde. The composition of matter is useful for pigment dispersions, emulsion polymeri- zation, leather tanning, water treatment, cement fluidization and many other applications. The composition remains stable when stored in liquid form at low temperatures.
