Disclosed is an aqueous dispersion of an amorphous unsaturated polyester resin based on a certain Dicidol isomer mixture and a combination of saturated and unsaturated dicarboxylic acids. The Dicidol isomer mixture contains 3, 8-bis(hydroxymethyl)tricyclo[5.2.1.0 2'6]decane, 4,8-bis(hydroxymethyl)tricyclo[5.2.1.0 2,6]decane and 5,8-bis(hydroxymethyl)tricyclo[5.2.1.0 2,6] decane. The amorphous unsaturated polyester resin is prepared by first polycondensing an acid component containing the Dicidol isomer mixture with a first acid component containing the unsaturated dicarboxylic acid to form an esterification product and then further polycondensing with trimellitic acid. The amorphous unsaturated polyester resin is water- dispersible in liquid form arad transparent in solid form.
