This invention relates to a dispersion of polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) particles that improves the stability of the PHA and simplifies the process of making the dispersions. The invention relates to a composition of polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) particles in water and at least one water-soluble copolymeric dispersant, wherein the dispersant contains a plurality of repeating units, wherein the units include at least one PHA-compatible unit and at least one hydrophilic unit, and to process for producing the composition. In one embodiment, the process comprises dissolving the PHA in a liquid of low water solubility, emulsifying the resulting solution in an aqueous solution of the dispersant, and removing the liquid. The invention also relates to a process for making a PHA latex which comprises producing a biomass containing PHA particles and non-PHA cell material (NPCM), solubilising the NPCM, removing the solubilised NPCM, and suspending the PHA particles in an aqueous solution of the dispersant.
L'invention se rapporte à une dispersion de particules de polyhydroxyalcanoate (PHA) et permet d'améliorer la stabilité des PHA et de simplifier le procédé de fabrication de ces dispersions. L'invention se rapporte également à une composition de particules de polyhydroxyalcanoate (PHA) dans l'eau et à au moins un dispersant copolymère soluble dans l'eau, ce dispersant contenant une pluralité d'unités de répétition qui comprennent au moins une unité compatible avec le PHA et au moins une unité hydrophile, et au procédé de fabrication de cette composition. Selon une réalisation, ce procédé consiste à dissoudre les PHA dans un liquide à faible solubilité dans l'eau, à émulsionner la solution obtenue dans une solution aqueuse du dispersant et à retirer le liquide. L'invention se rapporte également à un procédé de fabrication d'un latex de PHA, consistant à produire une biomasse renfermant des particules de PHA et une substance cellulaire sans PHA, à solubiliser cette substance, à retirer cette substance solubilisée et à mettre en suspension dans une solution aqueuse du dispersant les particules de PHA.
