ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A display apparatus useful when an image correspond- lng to an image data to be display is larger in size than the display area of a display unit. When the image data to be displayed contains blank line data in which all image data in a line are blank image data, the image data is compressed by skipping the blank line data and an image corresponding to the compressed image data is displayed on the display unit. Further, when an image data to be displayed contains consecutive blank line data, the consecutive blank line data is compressed to have a predetermined line width to thereby form a com- pressed image data and an image corresponding to the compressed image data is displayed on the display unit. In addition, when an image data contains a blank space part in its beginning and also contains a consecutive blank line data, the blank part is skipped, the consecu- tive blank line data is compressed to have a predeter- mined line width to thereby form a compressed image data and an image corresponding to the compressed image data is displayed on the display unit.
