An absorbent article (20) according to the invention comprises a mechanical fastening system (24) having hook-type fastening members (58) and a loop-type landing member. The landing member (64) is formed by a fibrous layer (26, 91, 97) extending on at least a part of the user-facing side of the backsheet (20) and extending beyond the front peripheral edge of the backsheet (20).
