An absorbent article having an expandable component. The expandable component comprises a compressed, resilient element disposed within an air impermeable envelope. The compressed element provides the absorbent article with a thin, low bulk profile prior to use of the disposable absorbent article, thereby reducing shipping and storage space. At the point of use of the absorbent article, the air impervious envelope is opened, thereby permitting entry of air into the envelope and expansion of the compressed element. In one embodiment the expandable component is a spacer for maintaining fecal void space in a disposable diaper. Alternatively, the expandable component can provide displacement of the topsheet relative to the backsheet along the longitudinal centerline of a sanitary napkin.
Cette invention se rapporte à un article absorbant comprenant un élément expansible, lequel est constitué par un élément comprimé élastique disposé dans une enveloppe imperméable à l'air. Cet élément comprimé confère à l'article absorbant une configuration mince et de faible encombrement avant l'utilisation de l'article absorbant jetable, réduisant ainsi l'espace nécessaire pour le transport et le stockage. Au moment de l'utilisation de l'article absorbant, l'enveloppe imperméable à l'air est ouverte, ce qui laisse entrer l'air dans l'enveloppe et produit l'expansion de l'élément comprimé. Dans un mode de réalisation, l'élément expansible forme un élément d'espacement destiné à maintenir un espace vide pour les matières fécales dans une couche jetable. Dans une variante, l'élément expansible peut produire le déplacement de la feuille de dessus par rapport à la feuille de dessous le long de l'axe longitudinal d'une serviette hygiénique.
