An easily and cheaply manufactured disposable absorbent sanitary article having two liquid-tight barriers, and including two side flaps (11) joined together at the transverse ends thereof and comprising a vertically inwardly-extending longitudinal fold (16) forming an oblong central opening (17) over an absorbent pad (2) which forms a first peripheral liquid-tight barrier. The two vertical folds themselves form a second lateral liquid-tight barrier. Said sanitary article is useful as a diaper or nappy.

L'article comprend deux volets latéraux (11) fixés entre eux à leurs extrémités transversale et comportant un pli longitudinal (16) orienté verticalement vers l'intérieur, pour former une ouverture centrale oblongue (17) au-dessus du coussin absorbant (2) qui constitue une première barrière d'étanchéité périphériques, les deux plis verticaux constituant par eux-mêmes une deuxième barrière d'étanchéité latérale.
