An improved disposable glucose test strip for use in a test meter of the type which receives a disposable test strip and a sample of blood from a patient and performs an electrochemical analysis is made using a working formulation containing a filler, an enzyme effective to oxidize glucose, e.g., glucose oxidase, and a mediator effective to transfer electrons from the enzyme. The working formulation is printed over a conductive carbon base layer to form a working electrode. The filler, for example a silica filler, is selected to have a balance of hydrophobicity and hydrophilicity such that one drying it forms a two- dimensional network on the surface of the conductive base layer. The response of this test strip is essentially temperature independent over relevant temperature ranges and is substantially insensitive to the hematocrit of the patient.
Cette invention concerne une bande de test perfectionnée à jeter, destinée à la mesure de la concentration du glucose dans un appareil de mesure du type dans lequel on place une bande de test à jeter et un échantillon de sang d'un patient et qui exécute une analyse électrochimique. On fabrique cette bande de test à partir d'une formulation préparée contenant une charge, un enzyme capable d'oxyder le glucose, du type glucose oxydase, et un médiateur chimique capable de transférer des électrons issus de l'enzyme. On imprime ladite formulation préparée sur une couche de base conductrice contenant du carbone de façon à constituer une électrode de travail. On sélectionne la charge, par exemple une charge de silice, de façon à disposer d'une charge à caractéristiques hydrophobes et hydrophiles équilibrées de telle sorte que, en séchant, cette charge forme un réseau bidimensionnel à la surface de la couche de base conductrice. La réponse de cette bande de test est sensiblement indépendante de la température, dans des gammes de températures appropriées, et pratiquement insensible à l'hématocrite du patient.
