DISPROPORTIONATION OF TOLUENE Abstract of the Disclosure Toluene is disproportionated in high yield with unusually low hydrogen consumption by the use of a specific group of catalysts. The operation is carried out in the vapor phase for extremely long on-stream periods and comprising contacting toluene at a temp- erature between 650°F. and 1000°F., a hydrogen to hydro- carbon mole ratio of between 0 and 5, a pressure between atmospheric and 1000 psig, and a weight hourly space velocity between about 1 and 20, with a catalyst com- prising a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite of the ZSM-5 family which zeolite is at least partly in the hydrogen form.
