An AM-modulated carrier signal is converted to a lower carrier frequency through mixing with a square wave local oscillator signal. A field-effect transistor chops the modulated signal according to the square wave signal so that a chopped or sampled version of the modulated signal is created without passing the signal through a semiconductor junction. A filter then selects the desired mixing product. Thus, a distortion free mixing of the signal is obtained using low cost components including a JFET switch and a square wave output from a microcontroller.

Une porteuse modulée en amplitude est convertie en une porteuse de fréquence inférieure par un mélange avec le signal d'un oscillateur local à onde carrée. Un transistor à effet de champ découpe le signal modulé selon l'onde carrée de façon qu'une version découpée ou qu'un échantillon du signal modulé soit créé sans que ce signal ait à traverser une jonction de semi-conducteur. Un filtre sélectionne ensuite le produit de mélange désiré. On obtient donc un mélange sans distorsion du signal en utilisant des composants peu coûteux dont un commutateur JFET, ainsi qu'une onde carrée produite par un microcontrôleur.
