A simple, safe implantable bone screw(10), and a method for distracting two bone segments, is provided. In general, the bone screw (10) includes a shank () having a threaded proximal portion (12) and a distal portion (14) with a major diameter (d1) that is less than a minor diameter (D2) of the threaded proximal portion(12). A transitional region (16) of decreasing diameter can be disposed between the threaded proximal portion (12) and the distal portion(14), and a driver receiving element (18) is preferably disposed on a proximal end (12a) of the bone screw (10). In use, the proximal portion (12) and distal portions (14) of the bone screw (10) are adapted to engage two segments of bone, and to create a distraction force between the two segments of bone.

L'invention concerne une vis à os simple, à implantation sûre, et un procédé de distraction de deux segments osseux. En général, cette vis à os comporte une tige présentant une section proximale filetée et une section distale d'un diamètre extérieur inférieur à un diamètre intérieur de la section proximale filetée. Une zone de transition de diamètre décroissant peut être placée entre la section proximale filetée et la section distale et un élément de réception d'un tournevis est, de préférence, placé à une extrémité proximale de la vis à os.
