A system for measuring the strain in a structure in which the temperature at the location the strain is measured is also measured in which an optic fiber is incorporated in the structure which has an interferometer positioned at the point or points where the strain is to be measured, a pulse of light is sent down the fibre and the backscattered light is split to separate the RSS light, the interferometer is used to measure the strain and the RSS is used to measure the temperature. There can be a network of fibers to monitor the strain throughout the structure.

On décrit un système servant à mesurer la contrainte dans une structure dans laquelle on mesure également la température à l'emplacement où la contrainte est mesurée. Une fibre optique est incorporée dans la structure et comprend un interféromètre installé à l'emplacement ou aux emplacements auxquels la contrainte doit être mesurée. On envoie une impulsion lumineuse qui parcourt la fibre vers le bas et la lumière rétrodiffusée est fractionnée pour séparer les raies du spectre de diffusion Raman (RSS). L'interféromètre est utilisé pour mesurer la contrainte et le RSS pour mesurer la température. Un réseau de fibres peut être mis en place pour contrôler la contrainte dans l'ensemble de la structure.
