ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disclosed is a diver's band held sonar which enables detection of a two foot diameter target at ranges up to the order of 250 yards by using a large frequency sweep continuous transmission frequency modulation technique. Ranging is divided into three or more segments so that an audio tone is gen- erated in each segment by mixing the echo pulses and transmitted pulses. passive mode is also provided for detection of sound generating sources.
