A divided cart for the separation of waste into independent waste streams, such as for the separation of recyclable materials from common rubbish or the separation of different types of recyclable material. The divided cart has a plurality of interior compartments that are separated from each other by an interior-dividing wall in the container. The container further has a cover and a plurality of lids that are in register with each compartment so that a user can gain access to a single compartment. Each lid is mounted on a unitary frame that covers the entirety of the container. The lids are carried by the frame and are pivotally mounted to the frame and container about a common pivot axis that also pivotally mounts the frame to the container. A user can access all of the interior compartments simultaneously by pivoting the frame about the pivot axis to expose the interior of the container.
