A diving mask (10) having hemispherically-shaped lenses (12) mounted on a flexible gasket or portion (14) and fitted to the contours of a user's face. Laser scanning or topographic mapping is used to determine the contours of the user's face. Edges of the hemispherically-shaped lenses (12) are then shaped to fit the contours of the face. As a result, the spherical center of the lenses substantially coincides with the optical nodal point of the user's (24), or the center of rotation of the eyes. This virtually eliminates the phenomenon of underwater magnification-distortion caused by the difference in refractive indices of water and air.

Cette invention concerne un masque de plongée (10) possédant des lentilles hémisphériques (12) montées sur un joint ou une partie flexible (14) et adaptées aux contours de visage d'un utilisateur. Les contours du visage de l'utilisateur sont déterminés par un balayage laser ou par cartographie topographique. Les bords des lentilles hémisphériques (12) sont ensuite mis en forme afin de s'adapter aux contours du visage. Le centre sphérique des lentilles coïncide ainsi sensiblement avec le point nodal optique des yeux de l'utilisateur (24), ou avec le centre de rotation des yeux. Ce système permet d'éliminer virtuellement le phénomène de grossissement de distorsion qui se produit sous l'eau à cause de la différence entre les indices de diffraction de l'eau et de l'air.
