A novel protein (Abi900, 183 amino acids) and its gene were isolated from a 11- kb natural plasmid (pSRQ900) of Lactococcus lactis. When pSRQ900 is introduced into dairy starter cultures, the Abi900 protein confers strong resistance to bacteriophage infection.
On a isolé une nouvelle protéine (Abi900, 183 acides aminés) et son gène depuis un plasmide naturel de 11-kb (pSRQ900) de Lactococcus lactis. Quand on introduit pSRQ900 dans des cultures laitières de départ, la protéine Abi900 confère une résistance importante contre l'infection par les bactériophages.
