This invention relates to a method of increasing the insecticidal spectrum and/or toxicity of Bacillus thuringiensis strains whereby an exogenous crystal toxin encoding DNA sequence is stably integrated into the chromosomal DNA of a host wherein the exogenous DNA sequence is expressed and further wherein crystal toxin encoding DNA sequences on resident plasmids may be expressed. The invention further relates to the B.t. host including said exogenous DNA sequences, methods of preparing said host, insecticidal compositions containing said host and methods of use.
