Abstract of the Disclosure The invention is concerned with a docking system for loading and unloading cargo vessels in Arctic waters comprising a dock structure open on one side, said dock structure haying a dock floor and a substantially u-shaped wall structure with a multi-wall end wall at the shore end of said structure and two substantially parallel multi-wall side walls connected with said end wall, the decks of said wall structure usually protruding from the water; a piping system arranged at least in the floor of said dock structure and being in a heat exchange relationship with the water in said dock structure; and at least one heat supply means selected from a group consisting of a refrigerant cycle, a cooling fluid cycle, a cooling fluid outlet, a hot water outlet and a flue gas outlet of at least one associated treatment or other plant, said heat supply means being connected with said piping system for the transfer of a hot fluid to increase the temperature of the water in said dock structure, said docking system being designed for efficient and low-cost controlled ice management in the berthing area and in an adjoining manoeuvering zone and for facilitating the arrivals of said vessels at and the departures of said vessels from berth and the control of the positions of said vessels at berth.
