A doctoring ink cup for containing and applying ink to an engraved image (18) on a printing plate (16) includes a flexible doctoring cup (12) drawn from a sheet of spring steel. The doctoring cup (12) has rim forming a doctoring edge (12a) for wiping excess ink from the printing plate (16). A cup shaped stiffening member (10) is bonded to the doctoring cup for stiffening the doctoring cup.
