The disclosure relates to new compositions comprising an, B12FH12-x anion that may be prepared chemically or electrochemically by oxidation of B12FH12-x2- salts. This anion can be generated electrochemically in a voltammetry experiment, or by chemically by treatment of the (2-) anions with powerful oxidants such as XeF2 or N02(+) salts. The new compositions can be used as 1 electron chemical oxidants and in electrochemical cells such as lithium ion batteries where their fomation at elevated potential can serve to limit the upper limit of voltage during the overcharge of such a cell.

L'invention concerne de nouvelles compositions contenant un anion B12FxH12-x - qui peut être préparé chimiquement ou électrochimiquement par oxydation de sels de B12FxH12-x 2-. Cet anion peut être généré électrochimiquement dans une expérience de voltamétrie ou chimiquement par traitement des anions (2-) à l'aide d'oxydants puissants tels que des sels de XeF2 ou NO2(+). Les nouvelles compositions peuvent être utilisées comme oxydants chimiques à 1 électron et dans des éléments électrochimiques tels que les batteries lithium ion, leur formation à un potentiel élevé pouvant servir à limiter la tension maximale pendant une surcharge d'un tel élément.
