ABSTRACT DOG FOOD OF IMPROVED PALATABILITY Dry dog foods are made more appealing to dogs by applying a surface coating containing ground, dried Piper nigrum fruit. The coating may be tallow which is applied at a level of at least 4% and less than 8% based on the total weight of the dog food or the coating maybe a powderous gravy former at a level between 0.5% and 10%. In either case, the coating will contain from 0.0001 to 0.01 total weight percent of ground, dried Piper nigrum fruit.
