A door and gate latch developed from a novel concept of utilizing two unique integral component units with interrelated functions. First component unit comprises a mounting device Fig 1, two-bolt extension guides 10 (Fig 1) and two extension locks 16 (Fig 1). First component unit or mounting device Fig 1 is produced from flat plate steel. Guides 10 and locks 16 are integral parts of the first unit and are illustrated in Fig 3 after being pressed upright into an operational position. Bending points are indicated by lead lines with arrows at 28-30 (Fig.1). Second component unit comprising a bolt and handle introduces a novelty in both the design and use of the handle 20 (Figs. 2-3). The handle is affixed (welded) to a bolt 22 (Figs 2-3) and positioned between the guides. An elongated cut out 18 (Figs.2-3-6) permits the handle to interlock with locks 16 (Figs.2-3), securing the bolt in an engaged position with the keeper 36 (Fig.7). The bolt is inserted through both guide holes 12 prior to welding the handle on the bolt. Selectively combining elements into two component units introduces major production and operational improvements. The latch introduces simple operational qualities that can be counted on to produce durable dependability for a lifetime of performance with good economical features.
