ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A gap closure which may be normally extruded from a dual durometer-type material with a cross-section varying transversely but not longitudinally and having a basic web portion from which a foot extends at one edge of the web and a gap cap to cover the gap and which extends from the other end of the web. The gap cap and foot nestingly receive the latch edge of the door is disclosed. The foot has a softer leaf which is extruded to be unitary with the foot and intended fold upon engaging the door inner frame. The gap cap has one side extending over the lateral edge of the door frame, and the other side extending over the outer edge of the door in a closed position. The basic web has a plurality of runners which are parallel with the foot and the gap cap and extend to engage the lateral edge of the door and close the gap along with the web. The method of the invention is directed to utilizing a plurality of adhesive patches to secure the gap closure to the latch or handle edge of the door. This is done by removing the patch covers to expose the adhesive faces of the patches, securing the patches onto the gap closure extrisopm of the door to the end that the thickness of the patches will, as closely as possible, fill the gap between the lateral handle or latch edge of the door and the interior web portion of the closure gap. Thereafter, the gap closure is permanently secured to the door, and moves in and out of contact with the frame or Z-bar type molding when the latter is employed.
