To solve problems such as contact failure by aging and malfunction by rain occurring in switches, including contact-type and capacitance-type switches, for detecting operation of a door handle. A piezoelectric sensor (4) has flexibility and can be installed in a door handle (3), and a small displacement of the door handle (3) can be detected at high sensitivity. Consequently, even simply touching the door handle (3) provides a signal output with a sufficient level, enabling the touch to the door handle (3) to be detected. Further, it is not necessary to expose an electrode to the outside; therefore a door handle device is less likely to be affected by disturbance, dust adhering on it, rain, snow, etc. Further, since the piezoelectric sensor (4) is soft and deformable, it has less restriction conditions on the location of installation and requires less installation space.
